Research on Animals in the Tundra

Animals in the Tundra:

I mainly used the books that we were given in class to learn about different animals in the tundra. I also used some websites to double check the information to make sure it was accurate. Here is what I found:

In the tundra there are several animals including the caribou, snowshoe hare, musk oxen, lemming, wolf, grizzly bear, polar bear, arctic fox, and reindeer. Some of these animals have adaptations to help them survive. The arctic fox and snowshoe hare change colors based on what season it is to help them blend in with their surroundings. This makes it harder for their predators to see them and eat them. Some animals, like the grizzly bear and polar bears, hibernate or stay very still during the winter. This makes it so they need less food, which is good because food can be hard to find during the winter in the tundra. Other animals have layers of blubber or fat to keep them warm. Also, some birds develop special feathers on their feet during the winter to keep the warm. Another adaptation is called migration, which means that animals go south for the winter to avoid the really cold weather. Caribou do this.
